These brownies were served by Del’s sisters at the bridal shower given for me. They had gotten the recipe from his cousin, Judy Punt, at a family reunion.
Bring to boil in saucepan:
2 sticks margarine
1 cup water
3 Tbsp. cocoa
Mix, then add to above boiled mixture:
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
Add to above (dissolve soda in water first), and mix well:
2 eggs
1 tsp. soda
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla
Put in greased and floured pan(s). The recipe calls for a jelly roll pan, but I found that when the frosting is put on, it often ran over the edge, so I use a 9x13 and a 9 inch square pan. The following frosting is to be added as soon as the brownies are removed from the oven:
Heat, but do not boil:
1 stick margarine
3 Tbsp. cocoa
6 Tbsp. milk
Add, mix, and spread over brownies:
1 lb. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup nutmeats (optional)
