A friend made this for one of our annual soup and bun suppers.

Brown, then drain:

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 1/2 medium onion

Add and simmer:

  • 28 oz. canned tomatoes
  • 6 cups water
  • 4 beef bouillon cubes
  • 1 can tomato soup
  • 4 chopped carrots
  • 3 stalks celery (chopped)
  • 1 bay leaf
  • parsley
  • 1/2 tsp. thyme
  • pepper to taste
  • 8 Tbsp. barley

Serve when barley is soft.
