Soft Granola Bars

  • Soft Granola Bars

This recipe came from Ted's sister Grace.  She got it from a Canadian Living Magazine.  We usually double the recipe so that they can be put in a 9x13 pan.  Here in Winnipeg, a batch is usually baked and bagged so that they can be taken on road trips for volleyball or basketball to provide an energy boost when needed.

3 cups oatmeal
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup wheat germ or bran
1/2 cup butter or margarine (melted)
1/4 cup corn syrup
1/4 cup honey
1/2 cup chocolate chips
nuts, coconut, M&M's etc.

In a large bowl, combine oats, sugar, and wheat germ.  Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly.  Stir in corn syrup and honey.  Mix well until combined.  Stir in chocolate chips etc.  Press into a greased and floured 9 inch square pan.  Bake at 350 for 20 minutes or until golden.  Let cool 10 minutes then cut into bars.
