Pea Soup (Sivet)

Here's one crockpot recipe that's a standby at our house--pea soup. We often eat it with cornbread.

6 cups hot water
2 cups split peas
1 carrot, diced
1 potato, chopped
1 onion, chopped
½ cup (more or less) diced ham
1 package onion soup mix

Combine and simmer in crockpot on low (8+ hours) or high (4+ hours).

Or simmer on the stove for about one hour.

For this soup, it seems like the longer you cook it, the better it tastes.

Sometimes I use chicken stock in place of the hot water and onion soup mix.
