The making of gingerbread cookies came to be a Christmas tradition before we realised it. They are really good iced with a thin icing of powdered sugar and water. This recipe also works if you pat it into a cookie sheet for a gingerbread slice (ice with the same thin glaze).
This is a delicious loaf; something like monkey bread but I like to slice it.
I tried it in an angel food cake pan with disastrous results. The sauce leaked out all over the oven. If you don't have a tube pan, you could use two bread pans.
These muffins have been made often by our family. The recipe is from the early 1970's when I was new here and we made a Calvinette cookbook. We like them, and over the years we have come up with some variations.
Bev got this recipe from Mrs. Wheeler, the widow lady in whose upstairs apartment she and baby Ryan lived while Norm served in Viet Nam. These rolls are often a Sunday morning breakfast special at our house. At fund raising auctions, a 9x13 pan of these rolls has brought a good price. They are usually sold quite quickly at bake sales too.
